~ Air Park to Receive New Addition ~ April 30
In 2004, the OV-10 Bronco Association embarked on a ten year plan to acquire a collection of twenty aircraft to attract visitors to its small aviation museum. That goal will be achieved this Saturday, April 30th when its twentieth airplane flies into Meacham Field to become part of the growing Veterans Memorial Air Park "Petting Zoo." The aircraft that is due to arrive is a small Cessna O-1, known as a Bird Dog. Its primary mission while in the military was as an observation aircraft flown by Forward Air Controllers, FACs or Aerial Observers to conduct Close Air Support or Artillery Adjustment missions. The Army National Guard flew aircraft like this throughout Texas for many years.
For those of you who haven't been out to the Veterans Memorial Air Park, here is a nice aerial for you taken by a friend of the museum, Jay Miller.
